What is the Competency-Based Curriculum?

The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is Kenya's new education system that replaced the 8-4-4 system. Unlike the old system, CBC focuses on developing practical skills, critical thinking, and creativity rather than just memorizing content.

CBC emphasizes learner-centered education where students actively participate in their learning. It assesses what students can do with what they know, not just what they know.

The system runs through Early Years (Playgroup to Grade 3), Middle School (Grades 4-9), and Senior School (Grades 10-12), providing a seamless 2-6-3-3-3 pathway.
